In addition to providing the information that the DMV supplies in their manuals, this book assists the reader with tips about actually taking the test and the pitfalls that can be avoided. For example, ‘Never pass on the left on a two-way roadway if…’ Five options are offered, and the answer is ‘any of the above!’’ Designed to engage the mind as well as to teach rules, this system of learning really works. The book contains information in question and answer form of every rule and fact about driving.
The format is excellent, beginning with a section on road signs: each sign is pictured accompanied by a question about its meaning (A through D) and immediately below (in lighter ink!) is the answer – fine reinforcement for paying attention to the task at hand. It is geared to apply to those applying for permits the first time ‘round (especially teenagers approaching the learning permit age!), but the book works very well indeed for all of us as we apply for renewal of our driver’s license – no matter the age bracket. California is doing everything possible to implement comprehensive traffic safety measures to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on our roadways. Though the title indicates the book is for California drivers, the information is universal and applicable to anyone wanting to pass the written form of the driver’s license exam.
